Dear Dad of Draven,
I was thinking about the Ghost Ship fire and I wanted to send my condolences. As I wrote at the time it was a shocking horror that took your son from you. I would like to send you my best wishes however I don't believe that that does much so I will send you this public post instead.
Facts are still not showing on the media and should there be anything that I would like to have solved, I would like to understand the facts in that case. The fire seemed to burn so hot and yet it was the National Media that distracted this country from the why. Lots of speculation, lots of opinion, lots of noise, however there were no none factors that drove that fire from the base of that building to the roof falling in upon the ones that were inside the building.
Albeit a cinder-block building the construction of such an older building should have skated a better venting system. I am from San Francisco and we are very fire conscious and our City Building Department is extremely visual while doing inspections. Oakland may not have the strict building permits and that brings the purpose to only I would hope that somebody in the interim of the time between that fire and now that a person or team of people have audited the City Planning Departments Records from 35 years ago. This would give us a good handle on the building permits required for such a building in the industrial part of town. I private this letter as Oakland is across the bay from San Francisco and since the earthquake and the Big Fire of 1906 that followed I cannot imagine that Oakland would not have implemented stricter laws due to the cause, the earthquake.
Might your hug today be from me as I have not forgotten your son. He had an ultra cool name and who ever you are I want you to know that I am sorry for your loss.
