'Kinbaku' vs. 'shibari'[edit]

There is much discussion about the distinction between shibari and kinbaku, and whether one term is more appropriate than another.

One modern distinction which is gaining popularity among westerners wanting to distinguish the terms is that shibari refers to purely artistic, aesthetic rope, whilst kinbaku refers to the artistic, connective, sensual, sexual practice as a whole. While thousands of books and articles have been written in Japanese about shibari, no one has found evidence^{[citation needed]} of there being any thought given to the distinction between these words among Japanese practitioners of the art.

A traditional view is that the term 'shibari' is a wrong Western Japonism. The word denotes tying in Japanese, but in a generic way, and traditionally not in the context of bondage. The names for many particular ties include 'shibari', but it is not traditional to call the entire activity that way. (In the same way as there are 'Diamond Knots' and 'Portuguese Bowline Knots', but 'knotting' does not mean bondage). Instead, Kinbaku is the term for artistic or erotic tying within traditional Japanese rope bondage circles.^{[citation needed]} This view seems to be squarely at odds with the way the word is actually used in books, periodicals, and discussions of rope bondage among Japanese.

An even more traditional view is that shibari is a term used for erotic bondage in Japan that is practically interchangeable with the term kinbaku. Itoh Seiu, generally considered one of the fathers of contemporary Japanese rope bondage used the term in the 1950s,^[3] with no sign of it being a "western Japonism" as did many other well known Japanese bakushi, from the 1950s until present day, including Nureki Chimuo, Yukimura Haruki, Akechi Denki, Tsujimura Takeshi, Arisue Go, Randa Mai, Osada Steve, Miura Takumi, Nagaike Takeshi, and Minomura Kou (among countless others). One of Nurkei Chimuo's how-to video series from the 1980s, is titled Introduction to Shibari.^[4]

While some claim this is a somewhat hidebound definition and the word shibari is now increasingly being re-imported from the West to Japan, as the tying communities are very much interconnected, there is no evidence to support such a conclusion as most practicing bakushi in Japan have very limited contact with the west and almost no interest in debating the meaning of words. Most Japanese kinbakushi do not object to the term shibari, as it's common vernacular in the global community.

Another explanation can be found in the linguistic roots of the two words, which share a core kanji.^[5]

Rope types[edit]

In Japan the most often used type of rope is a loose laid, three strand jute rope. This rope is referred to as "Asanawa" usually translated as "hemp rope" the word 'asa' as hemp and 'nawa' as rope,^[6][7][8] however this is using the more generic form of the word [hemp] referring to a range of natural fibre ropes rather than those pertaining to a particular plant. In recent history a range of rope types have been used for Kinbaku in Japan though Nawashi rarely use synthetic fibre rope and most often use jute.

Aesthetics of Japanese bondage[edit]

The aesthetics of the bound person's position is important: in particular, Japanese bondage is distinguished by its use of specific katas (forms) and aesthetic rules. Sometimes, asymmetric and often intentionally uncomfortable positions are employed. In particular, Japanese bondage is very much about the way the rope is applied and the pleasure is more in the journey than the destination. In this way the rope becomes an extension of the nawashi's hands and is used to communicate.^{[citation needed]}

Traditional Japanese bondage techniques use natural vegetable fiber rope (hemp, jute, or linen) exclusively,^{[citation needed]} though contemporary Japanese Masters have been working with a range of rope materials. The natural fibers easily lock to each other which means the bondage can be held together by the friction of twists and turns or very simple knots. Traditionally, multiple 6-8 meter lengths are used.^{[citation needed]}

Shibari in contemporary art[edit]

Shibari has a strong presence in the works of some renowned contemporary artists, mainly photographers, like Nobuyoshi Araki in Japan, Jim Duvall in the United States andHikari Kesho in Europe.

In 2014, Romanian singer-songwriter NAVI released a Shibari-themed music video, "Picture Perfect".^[9] The highly controversial video, directed by Marian Nica, was banned by Romanian television for its explicit erotic content.^[10]

History[edit]

Bondage as a sexual activity first came to notice in Japan in the late Edo period.^[11] Generally recognized as "father of Kinbaku" is Seiu Ito, who started studying and researching Hojōjutsu is credited with the inception of Kinbaku, though it is noted that he drew inspiration from other art forms of the time including Kabuki theatre and Ukiyoe woodblock prints. Kinbaku became widely popular in Japan in the 1950s through magazines such as Kitan Club and Yomikiri Romance, which published the first naked bondage photographs. In the 1960s, people such as Eikichi Osada began to appear performing live SM shows often including a large amount of rope bondage, today these performers are often referred to as Nawashi (rope master) or Bakushi (from kinbakushi, meaning bondage master).

In recent years, Kinbaku has become popular in the Western BDSM scene in its own right and has also profoundly influenced bondage, combining to produce many 'fusion' styles.

Technique[edit]

Kinbaku is based on fairly specific rope patterns, many of them derived from Hojojutsu ties. Of particular importance are the Ushiro Takatekote (a type of arm box tie), which forms the basis of many Kinbaku ties, and the Ebi, or "Shrimp", which was originally designed as a torture tie and codified as part of the Edo period torture techniques.^{[citation needed]} Today the tie is used as part of SM play and can be considered a form of Semenawa, torture rope.

Generally speaking, Kinbaku is practiced with ropes of 6–8 meters (20–26 feet) in length.^{[citation needed]} Due to the generally different physique of Western subjects, 8 meters (26 feet) ropes are commonly used in the West.^{[citation needed]} The rope material is usually hemp(or jute) though many other materials are in use including cotton and various synthetics. Various techniques are used to make the natural fiber ropes softer.^{[citation needed]}

Glossary[edit]

• kinbaku (緊縛^?): (noun) literally 'tight binding'. It does not convey the meaning of sexual bondage outside SM circles. However, some experts, e.g. Kinoko Hajime and Osada Steve, make a distinction from 'shibari' in that it is used to refer to sessions with a strong emotional exchange.
• kinbakushi (緊縛師^?): (noun) kinbaku master, can be shortened to bakushi.
• shibari (縛り^?): (noun) the act of tying, binding or weaving. It does not convey the meaning of sexual bondage outside SM circles.
• shibaru (縛る^?): (verb) tie or bind with a rope
• nawa shibari (縄縛り^?): (noun) rope-tying with a rope (an incorrect, "made-up" term, does not exist in Japanese^[12])
• nawashi (縄師^?): (noun) literally,"a maker of rope", but in SM circles it means a professional "rope artist"^[11]

It's Been A While

I used to think that I was interested in knowing what Love was all about of this I do confess to truth,

the idea of what Humanity continual spoke on speaking the empty piece to the filling of the concept,

told what I already knew on fact that I had not been afforded such experience an opportunity,

while in my youth I did stare and wonder of it's emotion as I saw it towards my siblings Four!!

The aspect was curious as it was a better yearning to have witnessed in my mothers eyes for them,

my mother does love my Step-father as she has that same pull within her being to his nature,

growing-up under this constant made me understand that even if I did not appreciate his prowess,

that I also had no right to dissolve or even suggest the dissolution of their partnership towards one another.

My mother did always make me laugh when she was unaware that I was watching her,

she would call my step-father into the room with the funniest yowl in her vocal chords,

a howl to the Moon so to speak with a swagger of her hips as her body sort of was in a swoon,

just as he would enter into her sight the blush on her Being was extreme he made her a bit queer!!

Not that this was a bad thing for the two of them I believe had I not been in the loop of the left overs,

their life may have enjoyed that innocent attach much more leasting circumstance as the stop.

The result of the investigate of the actual emotion has proven to be a thing that just appears to be pain,

a sort of strange in the end of thoughts for truth of our not meeting to date is based on the else!!

Our Buggy Wheels and carriage wheels are built from solid steam-bent Hickory and are tough as nails, for even the hardest driving. We build them  in  even sizes from 24”-48” Tall. Standard buggy or carriage wheels wheels come  with 3/8″ deep steel tire suitable for horse drawn applications. Standard rim  width is 1″. Check option for rubber tires before checkout if you want these, and wider tires up to 3″ are available.  Standard roller bearing hubs or flush (compact) hubs for many projects including horse drawn, or just about any project you can dream up that that requires up to 1,600 lbs. or less  total weight bearing. We make wheels for much heavier projects, also.

Excellent Buggy Wheels for Doctor buggies, runabouts, buckboards, many types of carts, etc. The weight bearing of two of our standard Buggy Wheels usually exceed the weight tolerance of the axles actually intended for them. We build quality. If you have questions, you’ll talk to the owner of the company before you place your order. We will impress you. We build a lot of wheels, but they actually are built one a t a time, so most orders for Buggy wheels, Carriage Wheels, or other Wagon Wheels take about three weeks to complete taking into account proper drying time for the wood.

These wheels accept 1” or 1 1/8” axles. No Wonder Cats Have Nine Lives It Would Take That Long To Figure Being To Lusting

In the Thought of Yesterday I knew that Tomorrow was A Day because last week I remember,

that this time last year there was a calendar on a Month that had a point to the factual remind,

to go to the store in the day of time of a hunger pain in my side which said to work out,

but in the broth of think I forgot that I fat and can't do that because of the conscience tax,

Now while I can't impossible to know the future to know that I would have to drive my car,

to the Park that can't be because it cannot be built for it was a nice idea oh wait that is,

oh wait that's a good time which not one person can have while we are to be busy about,

the processing of the garden of eden and the fruit which needs a name for the Apple.

The Life

I am an Obedient Role I had a soul it was sold though long ago in sad story of know,

it is in a good place for my Mother needed more than I for Eternity is a long way,

the guide for her are etched so she may find peace in this fact,

Infinity does indeed breath and Peace be upon My Mother for Being Strong to Show!!

My heart is also with another I gave it following the above Tell that loss is gain in Hell,

so it is with my eldest sister Tamara Sue,

in a moment of youth more like a very small me made a decision in breath!!

Future from time to now has been spent walking around this World,

an attempt to put understanding to done & not panic about being the lost one,

so with extremes in happened the balance was to rid myself of one emotional trauma at a time,

making the end all less painful and more accepting of the comings to be.

Looking into the eyes of been has difficulties to comprehend such a spend,

however I am a mirror lend to whom shall wish upon a friend for relief in a World full of ends,

with a new theme called 'The Continue' to capture the wealth of Life Itself as a Value to measure,

not discard as useless or trash rather place importance on the passed.

In truth I see belief in the innocence of my deeds,

to trait the mortal body to better society that seems to only deceive me,

I do not venture to partner with deception or sin,

for both are not my identity nor do I wish them to travel me.

Loving to laugh and finding a path for delivery to betterment a Cause in the find,

I'd like to Trust someone in this Eventful life of what has born horror in strife,

How does it work?

Your brain creates brainwave activity every moment of your life, day and night, awake or asleep.

Each state is accompanied by specific brain wave patterns. For example, brains of people in relaxed states create gentle, slow-moving alpha waves, while those engaged in intense concentration generate quick, jagged beta waves.

Muse’s brain sensors detect the spontaneous activity of neurons in your brain.  Your brain generates electrical frequencies that are detected using electroencephalography (EEG) sensors along the surface of the scalp.

As you shift between states like concentration and relaxation, Muse’s algorithms detect the subtle changes in your brain and show you those changes in real time, just like a heart rate monitor can provide information about your physical activity. 

The medical community has used EEG technologysince the early 1920s. However, recent advances in sensor technology now make it possible to offer EEG in an easy-to-use and mobile form.

Muse sits across your forehead like a headband, and rests behind your ears like a pair of glasses. When properly worn, the EEG (electroencephalography) sensors on the front of the band make contact on your forehead, and the reference sensors on the arms rest on the backs of your ears. Muse connects wirelessly to your devices via Bluetooth. Once Muse is on, you’ll hardly notice it at all.

What else comes with Muse?

We’re including our first application with every Muse.

Built using custom algorithms designed by our in-house team of experts, the first Muse app is called Calm.  The name says it all as this app helps you calm and settle your mind and is the foundation for improving the power and capabilities of your mind with future apps.  Calm helps build skills like maintaining composure, improving concentration and enhancing productivity. 

It is virtually impossible to function at your intellectual best if you are dealing with negative emotions. We recognize how the emotional and intellectual are interconnected, which is why we've designed an integrated system to help people calm their minds. Our first app, Calm, provides sessions based on scientifically proven techniques and practices shown to reduce anxiety and stress, to focus the mind, and to foster positive rather than negative responses. These practices improve composure, mental clarity, concentration, productivity, and your EQ.

We decided to introduce this application with Muse because of discussions we had with people about their attempts to improve their mood and build a more positive outlook and the growing number of stress-related illnesses.   The problem most people had was a lack of helpful, moment-to-moment feedback to know whether what they were doing was working. People simply didn’t know whether they were doing the exercises right. Lacking direction and helpful guidance, it’s no wonder most gave up. 

This was the “A-ha!” moment for our first application.

With our background in brain-computer interfaces, we saw how EEG could provide meaningful and timely feedback to help people get past the usual stumbling blocks.  So we’ve been working with experts who teach mental practices, fusing their methods and our technology into gorgeous, compelling digital experiences to engage in with your compatible smartphone or tablet.

Who’s behind it?

InteraXon is an interdisciplinary team of artists & engineers, neuroscientists & designers. Our founders have been working with this technology for almost a decade. The team started to come together in 2007, and since then we’ve been working to make brain-computer interfaces an accessible, affordable reality.

We’re best known for the installation we created for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. It allowed people in Vancouver to control the lights on Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, and the Canadian Parliament buildings from more than 3000k (over 2000 miles!) away, using only their brainwaves!

Since then, we’ve been building the coolest things we can think of for ourselves and for others. For Wrigley’s we created a chewing game competition.  Every chew pumped up the size of one of their fruit flavors until it exploded with juice. The first to get the fruit-flavored explosion was the winner.  We also built a game where TEDxToronto after partygoers raced to fill virtual martini glasses using their brainwaves; the winners got drink tickets to make their martinis a reality. Of course, we should also give mention to our brain-sensing beer tap. Concentrate hard and the tap unleashed a frothy cold one right into your glass.

From brain sensing slot cars to responsive toasters. From levitating chairs to remote-controlled blimps. We’ve been playing and experimenting, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with this technology. It’s given us a profound understanding of what makes this technology work, what makes it fun, and what makes it meaningful. And all of that knowledge is built into Muse. 

Other people working on EEG spend most of their time thinking about the technology. At InteraXon, we’re constantly thinking about ground breaking solutions that make sense in everyday life for people just like you. It’s this focus that we think is going to make all the difference to you.

We want Muse to be a part of your daily life so we crafted it to be as attractive, comfortable, light and intuitive as possible. We develop applications that address real-life scenarios, providing real-life benefits, while also developing applications that inspire, educate and entertain.
