STATEMENT: Schiff Sworn in to Serve Six-Year Term as California’s U.S. Senator
Washington, D.C. — Today, United States Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was sworn in to serve a full six-year term in the Senate. Schiff was accompanied on the Senate floor by U.S. Senator Alex Padilla as he took the oath of office. Schiff issued the following statement:
“I am honored to serve Californians in the U.S. Senate, having now been sworn in for the full six-year term. From the towering redwoods of the North to the fertile farmlands of the Central Valley, from the breathtaking beaches and deserts of the South to every community – large and small – in between, California is a big state with big dreams.
“We must work to ensure that every Californian can share in what our state has to offer. And that starts with the work necessary to build more housing and lower the cost of living. To create an economy that works for everyone and protects our planet for generations to come. And to defend our democracy and preserve the institutions that make progress possible and lasting change achievable.
“I am deeply grateful, profoundly hopeful, and more committed than ever to delivering for the Golden State. It is the honor of a lifetime.”
Background:
According to the U.S. Senate Historian, Schiff has set a record for being the only Senator in the history of the U.S. Senate to have taken the oath of office three separate times in less than one month. In March 2024, Schiff won a special election and a general election following the passing of former Senator Dianne Feinstein.
On December 9, 2024, Schiff was appointed to the Senate following Senator Laphonza Butler’s resignation, being sworn in for the first time. On December 19, 2024, Schiff took the oath of office once more after the California Secretary of State certified the state’s election results. On January 3, 2025, Schiff was sworn into office to begin serving his full six-year term.

To ensure accessibility for all, the following routes remain open to automobiles:
- Through Routes (North/South): Transverse Drive, Chain of Lakes Drive, and Crossover Drive (linking 25th Ave/19th Ave).
- East Side Access: MLK Drive (Kezar to Crossover), Nancy Pelosi Drive, Bowling Green Drive, the Music Concourse Loop, and Blue Heron Lake Loop.
- West Side Access: JFK Drive (Transverse to Great Highway), MLK Drive (Crossover to Sunset Blvd), and Middle Drive West.
Can I drive through the park?
Note: Paratransit vehicles are permitted to enter the Music Concourse at 8th Avenue and Fulton.
How do I drive to my favorite spots in the park?
Getting to the Museums, Japanese Tea Garden and Music Concourse
- From the north: Access the Music Concourse Garage from the Fulton Street and 10th Avenue entrance.
- From the south: Access the Garage via Music Concourse Drive, off of MLK Drive near 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way.

Getting to Blue Heron Lake Boathouse
- From the north: Enter at 25th Ave and Fulton. Take Transverse Drive, turn left onto MLK Drive, then turn left onto Blue Heron Drive.
- From the south: Enter at 19th Ave or 9th Ave and Lincoln Way, follow MLK Drive to Blue Heron Drive.
Getting to the Polo Field
- From the north: Street parking is available on JFK Drive via the 30th Ave, 36th Ave, or 43rd Ave/Fulton entrances. For the South Lot, enter at 25th/Fulton, take Transverse to MLK West, and stay right onto Metson Road.
- From the south: Enter at Sunset Blvd or 25th Ave/Lincoln Way. Follow MLK Drive and turn onto Metson Road.
Getting to the Beach Chalet Soccer Fields
- From the north: Enter at 47th Ave and Fulton. Make a slight left onto JFK Drive.
- From the south: Enter at 41st Ave/Lincoln Way to Chain of Lakes Drive, cross MLK Drive, and turn left at JFK Drive.
