When I was a boy (a long time ago), while plowing and driving mules, "gee" meant right, "haw" meant left, and "gee haw" meant straight ahead. Where did the "gee" and "haw" come from? (Asked by a curious mule-driver.) REPLY: Yes, I recall my granddad doing a lot of geeing and hawing with his team of horses.
