The wave of reality and the core to the field in the mist of a fog shorn,
in the sheering of the wool to the shepherd a sprog,
it is the feen on the day of the dog,
to announce the ration to a speaker on the spoke of an audio,
    The Horse.

    Their in the Ear,
the hooves are on the drums,
crumb is the Mankind to the Mountain and a harness,
the bridle will fall to a byte in mild,
a saddle will girdle and men mace,
as the awkward Grants to that Yosemite it be comes the Wolf,
along that shore of sand the Keepers will bit to a rain.

Tiers of snow to the balls of ankled,
not a person has moved to say that wild is living,
the tree and the rocks have staff,
    to that is the climb?,
there is no lift to a Tax see,
to drive without thought to think is the end of the flambe,
    so caramelize those onions,
and may your soup know that your brain is the mush.

    To guidance I rely,
    tough to the ignorance,
it is I in the allowance of singular patience,
as once again I state to the bell,
    where is Liberty?,
it cracked hundred plus years ago,
the Templar died to the Dice,
in that is the stagger of no stage as the constitution is a moment in temple,
    for the 18 Amendment.

It is the since that tumble so all of your insanity,
nothing brings envelope to fist a string,
    it is the coil!!

    I've witnessed your Crop,
the caught ten have vanquished death to debt a quote of law to taste,
what is it in the co. Cain,
it is the able and that is the harvest,
a breast plate for the crupper,
the halter for the lead lined,
go that tire and wheel your steer,
you have lost a Ten Shin to future you're own demise as dismissal,
than the screw be grains to the sands of time on The Watch!!

One hand is four-in jizz and that makes the Dick & Jane,
    flower are the seed,
    plants came Potts,
Rigs hitched to blindness and I watched as they SAT,
this is night to the day and that is the sponge,
    a half-halt to my sprain,
    the Heelers.

    Cheese is not Ham,
the all tour just duh fie duh,
and again the park kin Lot just spanks the skeet,
like the lost ven. dew of the frost on the glass have full.

    Hysterical strength

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hysterical strength, also known as superhuman strength, is a display of extreme strength by humans, beyond what is believed to be normal, usually occurring when people are in life and death situations. Common anecdotal examples include parents lifting vehicles to rescue their children. Such examples, however, have not been proven and have been dismissed by doctors across the world. The extra strength is commonly attributed to increased adrenaline production, though supporting evidence is scarce, and inconclusive when available; research into the phenomenon is difficult, though it is thought that it is theoretically possible.[1]
Superhuman strength may occur during excited delirium.[2][3]

    Examples[edit]

The most common anecdotal examples are of parents lifting vehicles to rescue their children, and when people are in life and death situations. Hysterical strength can result in torn muscles due to higher mechanical stress.
    • In 1982, in LawrencevilleGeorgia, Tony Cavallo was repairing a 1964 Chevrolet Impala automobile from underneath. The vehicle was propped up with jacks, but it fell. Cavallo's mother, Mrs. Angela Cavallo, lifted the car high enough and long enough for two neighbours to replace the jacks and pull Tony from beneath the car.[4]
    • In 2006, Ivujivik, Quebec resident Lydia Angiyou saved several children by fighting a polar bear until a local hunter shot it.[5]
    • In 2006, in TucsonArizona, Tom Boyle watched as a Chevrolet Camaro hit 18-year-old Kyle Holtrust. The car pinned Holtrust, still alive, underneath. Boyle lifted the Camaro off the teenager, while the driver of the car pulled the teen to safety.[4][6]
    • In 2009, in OttawaKansas, 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in), 84 kg (185 lb) Nick Harris lifted a Mercury sedan to help a 6-year-old girl pinned beneath.[7]
    • In 2011, in Tampa, Florida, 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in), 134 kg (295 lb) University of South Florida college football player Danous Estenor lifted a 1,600 kg (3,500 lb) car off of a man who had been caught underneath. The man was a tow truck driver who had been pinned under the rear tire of a 1990 Cadillac Seville, which had lurched forward as he worked underneath it. The man suffered only minor injuries.[8]
    • In 2012, in Glen Allen, Virginia, 22-year-old Lauren Kornacki rescued her father, Alec Kornacki, after the jack used to prop up his BMW slipped, pinning him under it. Lauren lifted the car, then performed CPR on her father and saved his life.[9]
    • In 2013, in Oregon, teenage sisters Hanna (age 16) & Haylee (age 14) lifted a tractor to save their father pinned underneath.[10]
    • In 2015, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Nick Williams lifted a four-wheel-drive vehicle to save a young boy pinned beneath its tire.[11]
    • In 2015, in Vienna, Virginia, Charlotte Heffelmire was able to momentarily use incredible strength to free her father from a GMC pick-up truck.[12]

    Research[edit]

Early experiments showed that adrenaline increases twitch, but not tetanic force and rate of force development in muscles.[13] It is questionable, however, as to whether adrenaline, released from the adrenal medulla into the venous circulation, can reach the muscle quickly enough in order to be able to cause such an effect in the midst of a crisis. It may be that noradrenaline released from sympathetic nerve terminals directly innervating skeletal muscle,[14] has more of an effect over the timescale of seconds.
Amphetamine and other stimulants are used by some athletes for their psychological and performance-enhancing effects.[15][16] In competitive sports, this form of use is prohibited by anti-doping regulations.[15] In healthy people at oral therapeutic doses, amphetamine has been shown to increase physical strength,[15][17]acceleration,[15][17] stamina,[15][18] and endurance,[15][18] while reducing reaction time.[15] Like methylphenidate and bupropion, amphetamine increases stamina and endurance in humans primarily through reuptake inhibition and release of dopamine in the central nervous system.[17][18]

Daught was an old Scottish term for a wild, unnatural taste. Thus, something with such a flavour was described as having daught.

    Liberty Bell

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Bell
The Liberty Bell is an important symbol of American freedom.
The Liberty Bell is an important and famous symbol of American independence (freedom). It used to be in the Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall). The bell was ordered from the London firm of Lester and Pack (which is known as the Whitechapel Bell Foundry today) in 1752. It had the letters "Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof." This was a part of Leviticus 25:10. It first cracked when it was first rung when it came to Philadelphia, and was made again twice by John Pass and John Stow. . .

it is the pen that inked,
    the signature piece!!

    The Liberty Bell

    Liberty Bell
Tradition tells of a chime that changed the world on July 8, 1776, with the Liberty Bell ringing out from the tower of Independence Hall summoning the citizens of Philadelphia to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon.
The Pennsylvania Assembly ordered the Bell in 1751 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of William Penn's 1701 Charter of Privileges, Pennsylvania's original Constitution. It speaks of the rights and freedoms valued by people the world over. Particularly forward thinking were Penn's ideas on religious freedom, his liberal stance on Native American rights, and his inclusion of citizens in enacting laws.
    virtual
The Liberty Bell gained iconic importance when abolitionists in their efforts to put an end to slavery throughout America adopted it as a symbol.
As the Bell was created to commemorate the golden anniversary of Penn's Charter, the quotation "Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof," from Leviticus 25:10, was particularly apt. For the line in the Bible immediately preceding "proclaim liberty" is, "And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year." What better way to pay homage to Penn and hallow the 50th year than with a bell proclaiming liberty?
    bell2
Also inscribed on the Bell is the quotation, "By Order of the Assembly of the Province of Pensylvania for the State House in Philada." Note that the spelling of "Pennsylvania" was not at that time universally adopted. In fact, in the original Constitution, the name of the state is also spelled "Pensylvania." If you get a chance to visit the second floor of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, take a moment to look at the original maps on the wall. They, too, have the state name spelled "Pensylvania" (and the Atlantic Ocean called by the name of that day, "The Western Ocean"). The choice of the quotation was made by Quaker Isaac Norris, speaker of the Assembly.
Centered on the front of the Bell are the words, "Pass and Stow / Philada / MDCCLIII." We'll get to Pass and Stow in a bit.

    The Crack

There is widespread disagreement about when the first crack appeared on the Bell. Hair-line cracks on bells were bored out to prevent expansion. However, it is agreed that the final expansion of the crack which rendered the Bell unringable was on Washington's Birthday in 1846.
The Philadelphia Public Ledger takes up the story in its February 26, 1846 publication:
"The old Independence Bell rang its last clear note on Monday last in honor of the birthday of Washington and now hangs in the great city steeple irreparably cracked and dumb. It had been cracked before but was set in order of that day by having the edges of the fracture filed so as not to vibrate against each other ... It gave out clear notes and loud, and appeared to be in excellent condition until noon, when it received a sort of compound fracture in a zig-zag direction through one of its sides which put it completely out of tune and left it a mere wreck of what it was."

    The Bell as Icon

    Liberty Bell
    libertybell
The Liberty Bell. Boston: American Anti-Slavery Society, 1856
The Bell achieved its iconic status when abolitionists adopted the Bell as a symbol for the movement. It was first used in this association as a frontispiece to an 1837 edition of Liberty, published by the New York Anti-Slavery Society.
It was, in fact, the abolitionists who gave it the name "Liberty Bell," in reference to its inscription. It was previously called simply the "State House bell."
In retrospect, it is a remarkably apt metaphor for a country literally cracked and freedom fissured for its black inhabitants. The line following "proclaim liberty" is, "It shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family." The Abolitionists understood this passage to mean that the Bible demanded all slaves and prisoners be freed every 50 years.
William Lloyd Garrison's anti-slavery publication The Liberator reprinted a Boston abolitionist pamphlet containing a poem about the Bell, entitled, The Liberty Bell, which represents the first documented use of the name, "Liberty Bell."

The Bell and the Declaration of Independence

    Liberty Bell
In 1847, George Lippard wrote a fictional story for The Saturday Currier which told of an elderly bellman waiting in the State House steeple for the word that Congress had declared Independence. The story continues that privately he began to doubt Congress's resolve. Suddenly the bellman's grandson, who was eavesdropping on the doors of Congress, yelled to him, "Ring, Grandfather! Ring!"
This story so captured the imagination of people throughout the land that the Liberty Bell was forever associated with the Declaration of Independence.
The truth is that the steeple was in bad condition and historians today highly doubt that the Bell actually rang in 1776. However, its association with the Declaration of Independence was fixed in the collective mythology.

    Bell as Symbol

After the divisive Civil War, Americans sought a symbol of unity. The flag became one such symbol, and the Liberty Bell another. To help heal the wounds of the war, the Liberty Bell would travel across the country.
Starting in the 1880s, the Bell traveled to cities throughout the land "proclaiming liberty" and inspiring the cause of freedom. We have prepared a photo essay of its 1915 journey to the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco.
A replica of the Liberty Bell, forged in 1915, was used to promote women's suffrage. It traveled the country with its clapper chained to its side, silent until women won the right to vote. On September 25, 1920, it was brought to Independence Hall and rung in ceremonies celebrating the ratification of the 19th amendment.
To this day, oppressed groups come to Philadelphia to give voice to their plight, at the Liberty Bell, proclaiming their call for liberty.

    History of the Bell

    Liberty Bell
On November 1, 1751, a letter was sent to Robert Charles, the Colonial Agent of the Province of Pennsylvania who was working in London. Signed by Isaac Norris, Thomas Leech, and Edward Warner, it represented the desires of the Assembly to purchase a bell for the State House (now Independence Hall) steeple. The bell was ordered from Whitechapel Foundry, with instructions to inscribe on it the passage from Leviticus.
The bell arrived in Philadelphia on September 1, 1752, but was not hung until March 10, 1753, on which day Isaac Norris wrote, "I had the mortification to hear that it was cracked by a stroke of the clapper without any other viollence [sic] as it was hung up to try the sound."
The cause of the break is thought to have been attributable either to flaws in its casting or, as they thought at the time, to its being too brittle.
    bell10
Two Philadelphia foundry workers named John Pass and John Stow were given the cracked bell to be melted down and recast. They added an ounce and a half of copper to a pound of the old bell in an attempt to make the new bell less brittle. For their labors they charged slightly over 36 Pounds.
    Liberty Bell
The new bell was raised in the belfry on March 29, 1753. "Upon trial, it seems that they have added too much copper. They were so teased with the witticisms of the town that they will very soon make a second essay," wrote Isaac Norris to London agent Robert Charles. Apparently nobody was now pleased with the tone of the bell.
Pass and Stow indeed tried again. They broke up the bell and recast it. On June 11, 1753, the New York Mercury reported, "Last Week was raised and fix'd in the Statehouse Steeple, the new great Bell, cast here by Pass and Stow, weighing 2080 lbs."
In November, Norris wrote to Robert Charles that he was still displeased with the bell and requested that Whitechapel cast a new one.
Upon the arrival of the new bell from England, it was agreed that it sounded no better than the Pass and Stow bell. So the "Liberty Bell" remained where it was in the steeple, and the new Whitechapel bell was placed in the cupola on the State House roof and attached to the clock to sound the hours.
The Liberty Bell was rung to call the Assembly together and to summon people together for special announcements and events. The Liberty Bell tolled frequently. Among the more historically important occasions, it tolled when Benjamin Franklin was sent to England to address Colonial grievances, it tolled when King George III ascended to the throne in 1761, and it tolled to call together the people of Philadelphia to discuss the Sugar Act in 1764 and the Stamp Act in 1765.
    Liberty Bell
In 1772 a petition was sent to the Assembly stating that the people in the vicinity of the State House were "incommoded and distressed" by the constant "ringing of the great Bell in the steeple."
But, tradition holds, it continued tolling for the First Continental Congress in 1774, the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775 and its most resonant tolling was on July 8, 1776, when it summoned the citizenry for the reading of the Declaration of Independence produced by the Second Continental Congress. However, the steeple was in bad condition and historians today doubt the likelihood of the story.
In October 1777, the British occupied Philadelphia. Weeks earlier all bells, including the Liberty Bell, were removed from the city. It was well understood that, if left, they would likely be melted down and used for cannon. The Liberty Bell was removed from the city and hidden in the floorboards of the Zion Reformed Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which you can still visit today.
Throughout the period from 1790 to 1800, when Philadelphia was the nation's capital, uses of the Bell included calling the state legislature into session, summoning voters to hand in their ballots at the State House window, and tolling to commemorate Washington's birthday and celebrate the Fourth of July.

    The Bell Today

The Liberty Bell Center was opened in October, 2003. From the southern end, the bell is visible from the street 24 hours a day.
On every Fourth of July, at 2pm Eastern time, children who are descendants of Declaration signers symbolically tap the Liberty Bell 13 times while bells across the nation also ring 13 times in honor of the patriots from the original 13 states.
Each year, the bell is gently tapped in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The ceremony began in 1986 at request of Dr. King's widow, Coretta Scott King.

    Voyager Golden Record

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    The Voyager Golden Record
Cover of the Voyager Golden Record
The golden record's location on Voyager (middle-bottom-left)
The Voyager Golden Records are phonograph records that were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. They contain sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth, and are intended for any intelligent extraterrestrial life form, or for future humans, who may find them. Neither Voyager spacecraft is heading toward any particular star, but Voyager 1 will pass within 1.6 light-years of the star Gliese 445, currently in the constellation Camelopardalis, in about 40,000 years.[1]
Carl Sagan noted that "The spacecraft will be encountered and the record played only if there are advanced space-faring civilizations in interstellar space. But the launching of this 'bottle' into the cosmic 'ocean' says something very hopeful about life on this planet."[2] Thus the record is best seen as a time capsule.[according to whom?]

    Background[edit]

The Voyager 1 probe is currently the farthest human made object from EarthVoyager 1 has reached interstellar space, the region between stars where the galactic plasma is present.[3] Like their predecessors Pioneer 10 and 11, which featured a simple plaque, both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched by NASA with a message aboard — a kind of time capsule, intended to communicate to extraterrestrials a story of the world of humans on Earth.[2]
This is a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.

    Contents[edit]

The contents of the record were selected for NASA by a committee chaired by Carl Sagan of Cornell University. The selection of content for the record took almost a year. Sagan and his associates assembled 116 images and a variety of natural sounds, such as those made by surf, wind, thunder and animals (including the songs of birds and whales). To this they added musical selections from different cultures and eras, spoken greetings in 55 ancient and modern languages, and printed messages from U.S. president Jimmy Carter and U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. The record also includes the inspirational message Per aspera ad astra in Morse code.
The collection of images includes many photographs and diagrams both in black and white, and color. The first images are of scientific interest, showing mathematical and physical quantities, the Solar System and its planets, DNA, and human anatomy and reproduction. Care was taken to include not only pictures of humanity, but also some of animals, insects, plants and landscapes. Images of humanity depict a broad range of cultures. These images show food, architecture, and humans in portraits as well as going about their day-to-day lives. Many pictures are annotated with one or more indications of scales of time, size, or mass. Some images contain indications of chemical composition. All measures used on the pictures are defined in the first few images using physical references that are likely to be consistent anywhere in the universe.
The musical selection is also varied, featuring artists such as Bach interpreted by Glenn GouldMozartBeethovenStravinskyAzerbaijani folk music by oboe player Kamil JalilovGuan PinghuBlind Willie JohnsonChuck BerryKesarbai Kerkar and Valya Balkanska. The inclusion of Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" was controversial, with some claiming that rock music was "adolescent", to which Sagan replied, "There are a lot of adolescents on the planet."[4] The selection of music for the record was completed by a team composed of Carl Sagan, Linda Salzman Sagan, Frank Drake, Ann Druyan, artist Jon Lomberg, and Timothy Ferris, who was an editor for Rolling Stone at the time.[4]
The Golden Record also carries an hour long recording of the brainwaves of Ann Druyan.[4] During the recording of the brainwaves, Druyan thought of many topics, including Earth's history, civilizations and the problems they face, and what it was like to fall in love.[5]
After NASA had received criticism over the nudity on the Pioneer plaque (line drawings of a naked man and woman), the agency chose not to allow Sagan and his colleagues to include a photograph of a nude man and woman on the record. Instead, only a silhouette of the couple was included.[6] However, the record does contain "Diagram of vertebrate evolution", by Jon Lomberg, with drawings of an anatomically correct naked male and naked female, showing external organs.[7]
The pulsar map and hydrogen molecule diagram are shared in common with the Pioneer plaque.
The 116 images are encoded in analogue form and composed of 512 vertical lines. The remainder of the record is audio, designed to be played at 16⅔ revolutions per minute.
Carl Sagan suggested that The Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun" be included on the record, but the record company EMI, which held the copyrights to the song, declined.[8]
In July 2015, NASA uploaded the audio contents of the record to the audio streaming service SoundCloud.[9]

    Playback[edit]

Explanation of the Voyager record cover diagram, as provided by NASA
In the upper left-hand corner is a drawing of the phonograph record and the stylus carried with it. The stylus is in the correct position to play the record from the beginning. Written around it in binary arithmetic is the correct time of one rotation of the record, 3.6 seconds, expressed in time units of 0.70 billionths of a second, the time period associated with a fundamental transition of the hydrogen atom. The drawing indicates that the record should be played from the outside in. Below this drawing is a side view of the record and stylus, with a binary number giving the time to play one side of the record – about an hour.
The information in the upper right-hand portion of the cover is designed to show how pictures are to be constructed from the recorded signals. The top drawing shows the typical signal that occurs at the start of a picture. The picture is made from this signal, which traces the picture as a series of vertical lines, similar to analog television (in which the picture is a series of horizontal lines). Picture lines 1, 2 and 3 are noted in binary numbers, and the duration of one of the "picture lines," about 8 milliseconds, is noted. The drawing immediately below shows how these lines are to be drawn vertically, with staggered "interlace" to give the correct picture rendition. Immediately below this is a drawing of an entire picture raster, showing that there are 512 (29) vertical lines in a complete picture. Immediately below this is a replica of the first picture on the record to permit the recipients to verify that they are decoding the signals correctly. A circle was used in this picture to ensure that the recipients use the correct ratio of horizontal to vertical height in picture reconstruction. Color images were represented by three images in sequence, one each for red, green, and blue components of the image. A color image of the spectrum of the sun was included for calibration purposes.
The drawing in the lower left-hand corner of the cover is the pulsar map previously sent as part of the plaques on Pioneers 10 and 11. It shows the location of the solar system with respect to 14 pulsars, whose precise periods are given. The drawing containing two circles in the lower right-hand corner is a drawing of the hydrogen atom in its two lowest states, with a connecting line and digit 1 to indicate that the time interval associated with the transition from one state to the other is to be used as the fundamental time scale, both for the time given on the cover and in the decoded pictures.[10]
Much like the Pioneer Plaque, controversy surrounded the complexity of the record and its accompanying stylus.

    Manufacturing[edit]

Gold plating at the James G. Lee Record Processing center in Gardena, California
Blank records were provided by the Pyral S.A. of Creteil, FranceCBS Records contracted the JVC Cutting Center in Boulder, Colorado to cut the lacquer masters which were then sent to the James G. Lee Record Processing center in Gardena, California to cut and gold plate eight Voyager records. Gold plating took place on August 23, 1977; afterward, the records were mounted in aluminum containers and delivered to JPL.[11][12]
The record is constructed of gold-plated copper and is 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter.[2] The record's cover is aluminum and electroplated upon it is an ultra-pure sample of the isotope uranium-238. Uranium-238 has a half-life of 4.468 billion years. It is possible (e.g. via mass-spectrometry) that a civilization that encounters the record will be able to use the ratio of remaining uranium to the other elements to determine the age of the record.
The records also had the inscription "To the makers of music – all worlds, all times" hand-etched on its surface. The inscription was located in the "takeout grooves", an area of the record between the label and playable surface. Since this was not in the original specifications, the record was initially rejected, to be replaced with a blank disc. Sagan later convinced the administrator to include the record as is.[13]

    Journey[edit]

Golden record is attached to the spacecraft.
Voyager 1 was launched in 1977, passed the orbit of Pluto in 1990, and left the solar system (in the sense of passing the termination shock) in November 2004. It is now in the Kuiper Belt. In about 40,000 years, it and Voyager 2 will each come to within about 1.8 light-years of two separate stars: Voyager 1 will have approached star Gliese 445, located in the constellation Camelopardalis; and Voyager 2 will have approached star Ross 248, located in the constellation of Andromeda.
In March 2012, Voyager 1 was over 17.9 billion km from the Sun and traveling at a speed of 3.6 AU per year (approximately 61,000 km/h (38,000 mph)), while Voyager 2 was over 14.7 billion km away and moving at about 3.3 AU per year (approximately 56,000 km/h (35,000 mph)).[14]
Voyager 1 has entered the heliosheath, the region beyond the termination shock. The termination shock is where the solar wind, a thin stream of electrically charged gas blowing continuously outward from the Sun, is slowed by pressure from gas between the stars. At the termination shock, the solar wind slows abruptly from its average speed of 300–700 km/s (670,000–1,570,000 mph) and becomes denser and hotter.[15]
Of the eleven instruments carried on Voyager 1, five of them are still operational and continue to send back data today. It is expected that there will be insufficient energy to power any of the instruments beyond 2025.
On September 12, 2013, NASA announced that Voyager 1 had left the heliosheath and entered interstellar space,[16] although it still remains within the Sun's gravitational sphere of influence.

    Depictions in culture[edit]

A copy of the record on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington Dulles International Airport
Several works of science fiction, such as the 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the 1984 film Starman and the 2000 film Battlefield Earth feature extraterrestrial intelligences discovering the record and turning their attention to Earth as a result. Among these is included the computer animated television show, Beast Wars, which features one of the records as a central plot point in a continuation of the Transformers storyline. It was also referenced in the 2005 animation known as Fafner in the Azure as being one of the objects that the aliens discover.
The recording is a major plot piece of "Little Green Men", a season 2 episode of The X-Files.
In a Saturday Night Live segment ("Next Week in Review") in episode 64 of the show's third season (originally aired 1978), Steve Martin's character, a psychic named Cocuwa, announced that extraterrestrials had responded to the record with the four words "Send more Chuck Berry".[17]
In 2014, the podcast The Truth produced an episode titled "Voyager Found", where the Voyager crash-lands on the property of Dawn and Tad, an alien couple, who decide to play the record.[18]
The 2015 feature documentary Sam Klemke's Time Machine compares the Golden Record's portrait of humanity to American man Sam Klemke's ongoing self-portraiture. In 1977 - the same year that NASA launched Voyager with the Golden Record - Sam started obsessively documenting his entire life on film. Sam Klemke's Time Machine, directed by Matthew Bate, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.[19]
The 2017 documentary The Farthest, directed by Emer Reynolds, features those who worked on the Golden Record and Voyager missions including Frank DrakeTimothy Ferris, and Nick Sagan.[20]
Jim Moray, an English folk singer, released the album 'Upcetera' in September 2016. It contains the track 'Sounds of Earth' in which he interweaves the stories of the production of the Golden Record and the romance between Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan. It refers to the recording of an EEG of Druyan as she thought of Sagan as the sound of someone falling in love.[21]
In October 2016 the podcast Science Friday featured an updated, crowd sourced version of the Golden Record which included, amongst other entries, I Have a DreamThe Little Prince, and the human genome.[22]
In 2014, composer Dario Marianelli wrote a "Voyager Concerto" for Violin and Orchestra, which was premiered in Brisbane (Australia) in November that year by the QSO, and in Stockholm the following April (2015), by the Swedish Radio Orchestra. The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, with British violinist Jack Liebeck, performed the piece over several concerts at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre; each performance was preceded by a lecture by physicist prof. Brian Cox, who talked at length about NASA's Voyager Mission, and introduced the concerto. The 30 minutes piece, in one single movement, depicts the journey of the Voyager through the Solar System, using as references some of the music that is on board each probe, on the Golden Record.[citation needed]

    Publications[edit]

Most of the images used on the record (reproduced in black and white), together with information about its compilation, can be found in the 1978 book Murmurs of Earth: The Voyager Interstellar Record by Carl SaganF.D. DrakeAnn DruyanTimothy FerrisJon Lomberg, and Linda Salzman.[23] A CD-ROM version was issued by Warner New Media in 1992.[24] The CD-ROM was the result of Sagan's diligence in obtaining copyright clearances for many of the numerous musical passages and photographs that the original Golden Record contained, to allow for their inclusion in the Warner New Media release.[citation needed] Author Ann Druyan, who later married Carl Sagan, wrote about the Voyager Record in the epilogue of Sagan's final book Billions and Billions.[25]
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the record, a Kickstarter project has been launched to reedit the record contents in LP format as part of a box set also containing a book and a poster.[26]

Delivering Food to the Front Door: A New, Or Very Old, Convenience?

    By: Christopher Muller, Ph.D.
A century of commercial competitive conflict between the grocery (food at home or “FAH”) and restaurant (food away from home or “FAFH”) distribution channels is now being fought on an unexpected but previously contested battlefield: who will own the “convenience” of delivery in the consumer’s mind.
Just one hundred years ago access to food across New England was very different than what we know today.  In 1915 the vast majority of people would have bought the food they did not grow or raise themselves at small, local, full-service general stores.  In larger towns and cities independent specialty retailers such as butchers, bakers, delicatessens and the occasional green grocers supplemented the available product list.
“Retailers face competition not only from other retailers, such as mass merchandisers who offer groceries, but also from other retailers who sell substitutes for groceries. Because convenience is becoming more of an issue for American consumers, they are more likely to eat out than to cook at home. Therefore, another competitor for grocery stores is fast-food restaurants.  To respond to this threat, supermarkets have added large prepared food sections to their deli department.”
    – Barbara Kahn, Grocery Revolution, 1997

    The First Home Delivery System

The traditional practice was for a homemaker to personally place an order with an independent shopkeeper for staples such as flour, butter, salt, sugar, coffee, tea, bacon or lard.  As a convenience and sign of personalized service he would then select her items and have the large bundles of provisions delivered to her home later in the day by a delivery boy.  Most women were accomplished cooks, responsible for the planning and preparation of daily meals from these mostly basic raw materials.  Working men (and yet unregulated working children) ate the majority of their meals, including at midday, at home or  when necessary brought a lunch pail filled with home prepared items with them to the workplace.
The traditional restaurant fell into one of two distinct types a century ago, both required dining on-the-premises.  There were full-service, “white tablecloth” establishments catering to the wealthy or the middle class for special occasions.  Alternatively there were limited service coffee shop-style counter service places aiming to supply everyday meals to a working or transient group who had no access to a home-cooked meal.  Social and eating clubs were genteel substitutions used by the affluent professional requiring away from home meals both at lunch and dinner, while a roadhouse, small family owned “mom & pop” or diner provided the occasional prepared meal for those of less means or with less time to dine.

    Direct-to-Consumer Home Delivery

With good reason, grocers rarely envisioned themselves as in head-to-head competition with meals prepared away from home.  If grocers and shopkeepers saw any competitive threat, it was from the direct-to-consumer home delivery provided by the growth of commercial dairy producers such as H.P. Hood in Charlestown, MA or the expanding reach of large bakeries such as Dugans as they moved from New York into Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.  Following in the literal footsteps of itinerant horse-cart tinkers and merchants, these newly organized, wide ranging and efficient “truck route” sales models delivered fresh staples daily to the front doorsteps of homes throughout the Northeast. At the peak of home delivery along with bread, bottled milk and dairy items there were companies providing everything from Fuller Brushes to tubs of Charles Potato Chips, from White Rock soda pop to cases of Narragansett beer.
“Same-day delivery not just for city clickers: grocery shopping goes 24/7: Online grocery shopping and delivery has become a crowded space, with a host of services competing for consumer attention. This trend allows everyone who sells food and beverages to be in the same-day delivery business without having to add additional operational infrastructure. Look for Uber and Google Shopping Express to put every supermarket in the same day delivery business and change consumer behavior to shop daily for prepared foods and recipe driven meal kits that contain all the ingredients and be delivered to homes and offices.”

A Switch to Cash & Carry and the End of Home Delivery

To compete with both the independent shopkeeper and the delivery man in New England, especially in Eastern Massachusetts, new choices were being offered to the rapidly industrializing marketplace.  In 1918 the Rabb family created the Economy Grocery Stores Company (which has evolved into today’s Stop & Shop corporation) a chain of stores which introduced the first self-service market to New England families.  It was based on the A & P Economy Stores, first opened in Jersey City, NJ in 1912.  Designed to offer a “Cash & Carry” no delivery and low price system, shoppers for the first time were given the opportunity to wander the aisles and truly “shop.”  Presented with a widening selection of newly introduced brand name packaged foodstuffs, groceries and dry goods shoppers could choose for themselves which brand, size or quantity they desired.  The companies were able to use cost savings from labor and quantity purchasing to offer lower prices to a growing consumer base.
In the mid-1920’s the Independent Grocers Alliance (I.G.A.) and Red & White Stores spread throughout the region, both were created to counter the spread of the conglomerates and their new buying power.  Soon the chaining of markets became the competitive model, many with thousands of stores under these and other branded corporate names.  Competition was fierce among these enterprises, each contesting by stocking new national consumer products as well as their own private label offerings.  By the end of the 1930’s a new larger store, the “supermarket,” was introduced with an increase in national branded grocery products on the shelves and bringing the previously independent specialty shops (butchers, bakery, green grocer) all under one roof.
At the close of WWII and as the suburbs grew across the country, hundreds of supermarkets were built to serve the expanding needs of families and their changing lifestyles.  Convenience for the home cook evolved into finding a broad product choice at a store near home usually with free parking. It was convenient to have complete control over the entire purchase process, including the total time it took to complete the shopping experience. As the pace of daily life quickened and homemakers found themselves increasingly busy during the day, timing of store-provided delivery became inconvenient.  In the mid-1960’s supermarket companies continuously sought to drive costs down and become the low-price leader. In comparison the value proposition offered by a single product delivery man on a route truck selling commodities such as bread or milk became a high priced relic of a time gone by. The convenience of home delivery couldn’t overcome the search for lower prices or the need to save time.

Declining Dominance of the Food Dollar Expenditure By Grocers

As they had for decades grocers still rarely envisioned themselves as in head-to-head competition with new restaurant offerings.  Even so restaurateurs and grocers have always been vying for the dominant share of the total food dollar.  The grocers captured more than $7 out of every $10 consumers spent on food purchases well past the Second World War and into the 1960’s (see chart below).
In New England as the evolution from full-serve to self-service was happening to the grocery channel, a similar process was also beginning to emerge in the food away from home channel. When dining out there were established restaurants in hotels, traditional taverns in country inns throughout the region, and historic restaurants such as the Union Oyster House or Jacob Wirth in cities like Boston.  There was also ice cream.
In 1914 the Durand family opened an ice cream stand in Post Office Square, which became the original unit of the Brigham’s chain of stores by the mid-1920’s.  Nearby the Bickford family also got their start in the early 1920’s.  Both became iconic New England family restaurant businesses. At this time the true innovator was the iconoclastic Howard D. Johnson of Quincy, Ma.  In 1925 he created an eponymous chain of restaurants, which had been built on his efforts to create a more flavorful ice cream out of the necessity to save his family’s business from bankruptcy.  Surviving both the Great Depression and World War Two, by the middle of the 1960’s Howard Johnson’s was to become the world’s largest foodservice company.

The Early Days of Chain Restaurants: A Choice of Eat-In or Take-Out

What is important for the nature of food service competition with the grocery industry is that each of these restaurant chains, as  the very definition of food away from home, were built in large part on a “take away” model.  Howard Johnson’s in particular was created to cater to the traveling public, with the majority of his restaurants opened along highways and on busy traffic circles.  The early roadside menu featured proprietary flavors of ice cream, with additional items such as “frankforts” and fried clam rolls.  All were intended to be eaten on the move, in fact handheld, and not specifically consumed inside the restaurant using utensils.  Eventually diner-style counter seats for quick short-order meals became standard and then dining room tables and booths were added, but all HoJo restaurants maintained the take-out option at the front entrance.  Most also included a small retail area of food novelties (salt water taffy, chocolate lollypops, and gift items).  For the family, the truck driver or the traveling businessman these roadside “orange roof” eateries were the definition of on-the-go convenience.
In the same way that the move to the suburbs after WWII drove the growth of the supermarket, it also set in motion the growth of the fast food chain restaurant explosion.  Beginning in the early 1950’s companies such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Chick-fil-A created a new fast food model as the definition and use of food away from home changed. In the fifty years between 1950 and 2000 the American public doubled their dollar purchases for restaurant food compared to food prepared for meals at home (see chart).
The remarkable thing about all of the fast food companies is that the overwhelming consumption of the products they sell has always occurred away from the restaurants themselves: either as take-away or ordered at the drive-thru and most likely eaten in a car.  Convenience for the fast food consumer is about speed of service and ease of ordering, with low prices close behind.
Over this period there were notable exceptions to the dine-in or take-out service model.  As early as 1952 a fried chicken franchise company, Chicken Delight, was established which was built on the service concept of home delivery.  By the end of the 1960’s it had grown to more than 1,000 units across the country.   Using the advertising phrase “Don’t cook tonite, call Chicken Delight” it featured a unique dedicated system of free delivery. The company all but collapsed after losing a precedent setting anti-trust law suit over the requirement that franchisees pay premiums for purchasing franchiser approved restaurant supplies.  The home delivery model seemed to disappear with the brand and its main competitor, Kentucky Fried Chicken, grew on a service model of family take-out.

The Emergence of Pizza Delivery as Catalyst for On-Line Ordering

The modern era of restaurant delivery of food to the front door was started when Tom Monahan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza, instituted the “30 Minutes Or Free” campaign in 1973, initially with free delivery. No chain of any kind has done more to change the acceptance of a stranger bringing food to people’s front doors in the middle of the night than Domino’s.  It did this while introducing such novel ideas as the corrugated pizza box, heated insulated delivery bags, and the lighted “3-D” car top sign.
Today the company is the dominant restaurant delivery provider, especially for customers using on-line as a convenience. More than 40% of Domino’s U.S. sales were generated by online orders in 2014, and  Domino’s alone delivers more than 1.3 million pizzas every day in the U.S.  Over the past forty years, this delivery-focused innovation has ignited the entire corporate pizza industry to shift from a dine-in service system to one based on delivery. In just over seven years (since 2007) Domino’s Pizza has positioned itself to become a leader in the use of on-line ordering technology while capturing a greater share of the prepared food delivery business.
Due to the success of chain pizza delivery and the explosion of internet access through smartphone technology, many third party companies have become very important players in delivering restaurant meals in most major U.S. cities.  The convenience of being able to order on-line, using service companies such as GrubHub.com, foodler.com, eHungry.com, menufy.com, or delivery.com has significantly changed the delivery model for all restaurants, but especially for the local independent operator.  With little fanfare the restaurant industry, the very definition of food away from home, has become a major factor in the meals people consume in their homes.  Third party delivery has been called the “great equalizer” for an independent restaurant’s ability to reach its customers.

Home Grocery Delivery Returns Thanks to the Internet

The competitive battleground for home delivery has been joined by many national and regional supermarket chains over the past few years.  Stop & Shop, with headquarters in Quincy, MA is a U.S. division of the Dutch conglomerate Royal Ahold and is currently the 8th largest supermarket chain in the U.S.  The company took an early position in the home delivery market channel with the 2001 purchase of the first mover in e-commerce and on-line grocery delivery, Peapod.  The company has established itself as a leader in the area of technology in on-line ordering, and is the first in the U.S. to create “virtual” grocery stores in commuter rail stations throughout the Northeast and Chicago.
Since the Peapod purchase by Stop & Shop, more than a third of the top 75 U.S. grocery retailers have chosen to become involved in the “e-grocery” space, spending hundreds of millions of dollars in the push for competing in the category.  More than half of these entrants have created a hybrid e-grocery business model known as “Click and Collect” (a system where customers shop on-line and then drive to a pick-up point for groceries assembled by in-store staff) instead of a full-service home grocery delivery option. Peapod is also expanding into this pick-up option currently with over 3 dozen stores in Massachusetts and another 3 dozen in Connecticut and Rhode Island converted to the system.  Only one Stop & Shop/Peapod location shows same-day pick-up service availability, but the website does advertise a curbside service, “Pick-up is available at the convenient locations below. No need to get out of your car!”  In a trade-off of convenience over price, for less than an hour at minimum wage consumers can avoid the time spent inside the store on a traditional shopping trip.  A flat home delivery fee of $6.95 applies for orders over $100.00, $9.95 for less than $100.00, or $2.95 for store pick-up on minimum orders of $60.00.
In contrast, Kroger, the no. 2 largest U.S. grocery company in 2014 purchased an established on-line health food and vitamin provider, Vitacost.com.  Kroger paid $280 million in the hopes of being able to enter the direct-to-consumer market using an Internet platform of more than 1 million subscribers.  The Vitacost website offers ground delivery of non-perishable and mostly organic health foods in “1 to 4 days!” Currently delivery is offered free for purchases made over $45.00.
The small, family company, Wellesley, MA based Roche Bros. Supermarkets offers home delivery from 9 of their 18 store locations and on-line pick-up or “Click and Collect” in five others, this latter a service which they are expecting to expand.  Roche Bros. offers a wide variety of prepared meals and individual dinners, which are delivered cold and require re-thermalization, at prices ranging as low as $2.99 for a single cheese quesadilla. It charges a flat fee of $9.95 for all delivery orders with a strict no tipping policy.  There is a flat $6.99 fee for pick-up orders at the stores.
According to The Food Institute and the research firm Brick Meets Click for the full year of 2014 online e-grocery sales are estimated to be about $27 billion, or roughly 4% of the total U.S. grocery market revenue.

The Third Party Challenge For Grocery Delivery

While the traditional “bricks and mortar” grocery industry is making these steady but small steps towards e-grocery acceptance, there is a major change coming that reflects the disruption felt by all other retail segments by the emerging e-commerce market.  To paraphrase a line from Sondheim’s Into the Woods: ‘there are giants in the cloud (sic).’
Amazon.com has been testing grocery delivery in Seattle since 2007 when it created AmazonFresh.  This rapidly expanding fresh home delivery option includes both perishable and prepared meals.  In parts of New York City delivery is guaranteed within one hour, with an annual subscription cost of $299.00.  Just at the end of 2014 Amazon added a new smartphone App to its e-grocery mix, Amazon Prime Now, which offers free two-hour delivery service to Amazon Prime members.  It is expected to be in 15 major cities by the end of 2015.
Not to be outdone by arch-rival Amazon, Google.com is also entering the competition for home delivery of retail items, called Google Shopping Express. In the grocery segment, Google Express has built a partnership with Whole Foods Markets.  Initial delivery service is free on minimum orders of $15.00.
In addition, the world’s largest retailer, Walmart, is also the country’s largest grocery chain. Walmart.com has been heavily invested in the home delivery and “Click and Collect” e-commerce environment for a number of years and is promising to expand.  While it offers thousands of dry goods and packaged grocery items, it has not yet committed to delivery of perishable grocery products but does have them available for in-store pickup.  Shipping is free on orders over $50.00, but only comes with delivery guaranteed for 6 to 8 days. In-store pickup is free, as well.

    The Personal Shopper Returns

The real competitive battleground in 2015 for both grocers and restaurants, though, will be a rapidly growing e-commerce start-up called Instacart.com. The company has already established a major presence in the Boston market, along with its original home of San Francisco, Chicago and a dozen other cities.  The founder and CEO, Apoorva Mehta, was an executive at Amazon before creating the company in 2012. The service uses skilled individuals who personally shop at area stores including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Shaw’s and Costco, delivering to homes and businesses in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford and Chestnut Hill.
What makes Instacart different is that is works on the disruptive decentralized model which has made Uber a threat to traditional taxis, or Airbnb a threat to lodging.  Created on the principles of the shared economy, a network of trained independent personal shoppers is contacted through a proprietary smartphone app.  These individual contractors are assigned a single customer order which they confirm with the app.  They then head to the desired stores and work to pick items that are better than the customer might even choose themselves.  When necessary or desirable shoppers will call the customer to make suggestions for in-store substitutions.  Delivery is generally within an hour, with costs ranging from $3.99 to $9.99 depending on minimum purchase and speed of service, but also carries a premium charge for Instacart of up to 20% on each item.
A test is being conducted in some Boston Whole Foods Markets to have Instacart personal shoppers assigned to individual locations to accelerate speed of service. Unlike Peapod or AmazonFresh, Instacart has no need for warehouses, drivers or delivery trucks. The infrastructure is the technology of a smartphone.

    Back to the Future

The emerging battle, appears to be a return to a fight first defined a century ago.  Simply, who will control the ephemeral space between the consumer’s need for convenience and how, or where, they will prepare and eat dinner tonight.
This gets us to a convergence point for restaurants and supermarkets.  It starts with the primary question, “what is the difference between a meal prepared at home and a meal prepared away from home if both are delivered to the front door and eaten at the same kitchen table?”
Maybe the convergence discussion continues with a question that has been asked for more than one hundred years, “how do I define convenience and personal service when it comes time to eat?”
If a personal shopper from Instacart.com selects a fully cooked rotisserie chicken at Costco and combines it with a fresh bag of Spring green salad mix and a bottle of Pinot Grigio, then delivers it to the front door of an on-line customer within an hour, is that substantively different than a GrubHub delivery driver arriving with a Nigiri Sushi platter and Tonkatsu from a local Japanese restaurant nearby?
Or if a Domino’s driver delivers a custom made Artisan Chicken & Bacon Carbonara Pizza with a Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake and a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke is that different than a Peapod driver showing up with a California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Chicken Crispy Thin Crust Pizza, a Bertolli Triple Chocolate Strata Cake and a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke?
Technology, especially when it comes to the easy access everyone has to on-line, e-grocery, e-commerce applications through smartphones and laptops, forces us to rethink what convenience and personal service actually mean when it comes time to eat. Is it more inconvenient to order on-line and have to drive to “Click and Collect” our groceries at the Stop & Shop, or is it more inconvenient to use the new “Order Ahead” on-line feature at a Panera Bread and simply walk around the corner to grab the bag with my name on it at lunch?
After dinner as the dishes are being cleared, does it matter to the consumer who brought the food to the door or if it was classified as FAH or FAFH?
Remember the “good old days” when we all knew the difference?

    Great Sphinx of Tanis

Department of Egyptian Antiquities: Religious and funerary beliefs
    Author(s):
    Lili Aït-Kaci

The sphinx is a fabulous creature with the body of a lion and the head of a king. This one was successively inscribed with the names of the pharaohs Ammenemes II (12th Dynasty, 1929-1895 BC), Merneptah (19th Dynasty, 1212-02 BC) and Shoshenq I (22nd Dynasty, 945-24 BC). According to archaeologists, certain details suggest that this sphinx dates to an earlier period - the Old Kingdom (c. 2600 BC).

    Tanis

This is one of the largest sphinxes outside of Egypt. It was found in 1825 among the ruins of the Temple of Amun at Tanis (the capital of Egypt during the 21st and 22nd dynasties). This impressive stone sculpture with its precise details and polished surfaces is a work of admirable craftsmanship. The recumbent lion, with tense body and outstretched claws, gives the impression of being ready to leap. The shen hieroglyph sculpted on the plinth under each paw evokes a cartouche, confirming the royal nature of the monument.

    Modifications

The legible inscriptions are all "usurpations", i.e. traces of subsequent modifications to the monument. The names of Merneptah (19th Dynasty) and Sheshonq (22nd Dynasty) are legible. The original texts (traces of which are still visible in places) were deliberately erased and replaced. It is therefore impossible to date this statue with certainty, especially as the face does not resemble any known, well-documented royal portrait. In view of this uncertainty, Egyptologists are divided: some date the sphinx to the 12th Dynasty, others to the 6th or even the 4th.

    Shesep-ankh

The Greek word "sphinx", commonly used to refer to the Egyptian statues representing a lion with a human head, was not the original term. The appropriate Egyptian appellation for a statue or image of this kind was shesep-ankh ("living image"). The creature was a symbolic representation of the close relationship between the sun god (the lion's body) and the king (the human head), and was the "living image of the king", demonstrating his strength and his close association with Ra.
The sphinx was always positioned either as (recumbent) guardian and protector of places where gods appeared - such as the horizon, and temple entrances - or as (upright) defender of Egypt against hostile forces, whom he trampled underfoot.

↘Added for the find after above write that I had published at 1:09 AM June 23, 2017. This discovery: 2:02 AM added for sake of clarified Birch   ↙

We are told that the signs of the Zodiac as perceived and recorded by the pharaohs have recently been discovered at the Louvre Museum in Paris (source: Egyptian Government). People were to read their luck not as shown in daily newspapers under signs such as: Capricorn, Taurus, Aries etc, but rather according to the somewhat different ancient Egyptians horoscope.

The signs of the zodiac, which allegedly reflect the effect of stars on the destinies of people born within specific date groups, were first devised by the ancient Greeks. However, hundreds of years before, the ancient Egyptians had charted a similar map of the stars.

    Thoth (August 29 - September 27)

Thoth is the god of learning. Those born under this sign are typically accurate and capable problem-solvers and excellent organizers as well.
However, they would give up anything in return for a better offer.
    Strengths: seasoned and original.
    Weaknesses: rash, impatient and self-rigorous.
Jobs assumed: journalists, actors, lawyers and teachers.

    Horus (September 28 - October 27)

Horus is the god of the shining sun. Those born under this sign would risk their lives to avenge father's death. They courageously face dangers and seldom forestall catastrophes.
Strengths: optimistic, brilliantly sociable and motivated to win the best in life.
Weaknesses: unrealistic, stubborn and reluctant to confront problems. Jobs assumed: politicians and media men.

They are eloquent and highly polemic in all fields.
Strengths: witty and highly adjustable in hard times.
    Weaknesses: impatient, impetuous and quarrelsome.
Jobs assumed: teachers, lecturers, writers, announcers, investors.
Many of the world sports champions are born under this sign.

    Sphinx: (December 27 - January 25)

Sphinx is the treasure guardian who could convert himself into the shape of any creature. Those born under this sign can change their attitudes to fit nearly all situations.
They are stern and shrewd and are characterized by an investigative faculty, self-discipline and high sensibility.
Strengths: While outwardly witty and humorous, in reality they are rather serious, discreet and discerning.
Weaknesses: They make misjudgments and are sometimes proud and haughty.
    Job assumed: Self-employed.

Strengths: sympathetic, generous, loving and perseverant in proving their view point.
    Jobs assumed: advertisement and fashion.
A note from Tour Egypt: Occasionally we find interesting tidbits from the Egyptian government. This is certainly one of those, though the source and information is difficult to verify. Hence, we are running this story not so much as a serious research paper, but more for the fun of it. However, the Louvre Museum does provide a display of what it calls a Zodiac from the ceiling of a chapel of the great temple of Denderah (Dendera), though this Zodiac is dated to 50 BC (the Roman Period, after the Greek Period). For additional information (and a more serious discussion) on ancient Egyptian astrology, see the Tour Egypt section on this topic.

    About Me

Summer storms can wreak a havoc on your home in many ways that you may not even realize. If you have experienced a strong summer storm this year, you should have your home inspected before winter comes. I didn't realize that the storm at my home had damaged the flashing around my chimney and removed a couple of the shingles before winter had set in. By the time spring rolled around, the damage was atrocious. This blog will show you all of the things that my damage contractor pointed out for me to watch for after the storms of summer hit hard.
Tips For Getting Rid Of Smoke Damage In Your Mattress

    December 8, 2015Uncategorized
There were approximately 494 thousand structure fires reported in the U.S. in 2014, resulting in about $9.8 billion in damages. Even if it was a small fire, such as a garbage can fire, the damages can cost up to several hundred dollars in restoring your household items from the soot and smoke that may have been created. Smoke can permeate your fabrics and textiles, and your mattress is one of those things that can be affected. If your fire resulted in an extinguisher being used on the mattress, then you would be better served to replace it altogether. However, smoke and soot damage can be cleaned, and the mattress can be reused.

So if you have had a fire and want to save your money for bigger cleanups, here are some ways to save that mattress.

    Getting it clean

Since it is impossible to launder a mattress, cleaning it will take a bit more effort than doing the bed clothes. It is best to use a cleanser such as a pre-spray and spot remover. Before applying the cleanser, you will need to vacuum the black or brown particles that may have deposited on the mattress from the soot. Depending on the cleanser that you choose, you should follow the diluting or preparation directions given from the manufacturers. Spray the cleanser on the soot-stained areas.

Use a nylon brush to scrub at the soot areas and then flush the area thoroughly with water. If possible, you can put the mattress out in the air to dry, as this will also aid with getting rid of the smoke odor. If you live in an apartment, then open the windows and doors, move the mattress to where it might be able to catch some sunlight and use air movers to aid in the drying process.

    Getting it fresh

Household items found in your kitchen such as vinegar and baking soda are odor eaters and can be used to restore a natural fresh scent to your mattress. Once it is cleaned of the soot, spray some white vinegar on the mattress. Spray enough to saturate the top layer of the mattress. Allow the vinegar to air dry before sprinkling baking soda on it. You can once again do a scrub that will spread the baking soda particles into the mattress fibers and then allow to sit for at least a day.

Vacuum the baking soda from the mattress and then repeat the process if you can still detect any hint of a smoke or soot smell. Remember to do the same treatment on both sides of the mattress before use.

How To Replace Water Damaged Drywall

    October 21, 2015Uncategorized
Drywall is usually the first thing that gets damaged where there is leaking in the wall pipes. When drywall gets soaked from the inside, it can often be hard to detect at first. But, water damaged drywall can start to sag and become very weak. This is why it is so important to fix water damaged drywall as soon as possible. In some cases it will be easier to just cut out the damaged part of the drywall and replace. This article explains how to change drywall on vertical walls.

    Cut Out the Damaged Area

Cutting out a section of drywall is very easy with a simple drywall saw. These saws are small but sharp, and they cut through drywall very easily. However, you definitely don’t want to cut through any pipes or studs. This is why you should find and mark potential studs and obstructions with a stud finder before you start cutting. You also want to take care when cutting out that your cuts are straight. Cutting out a square or rectangle will make it much easier to cut the replacement piece. It will also be easier to mount the new piece of drywall if you are able to mount the edges on a stud. This is why you should try to end your cut in the middle of a stud.

    Cutting the New Piece

When cutting straight edges of a new piece of drywall, you do not want to use the saw. Instead, you should just use a utility knife. You can cut much straighter and cleaner lines with a knife. Score one side of the drywall, cutting about halfway through the board. Then, you should be able to snap the piece along the straight line. When making the cuts, you want the fit to be as tight as possible, so double check all your measurements.

    Taping and Patching the Drywall

The final step is to attach the drywall to the wall. Using drywall screws, it is very easy to attach the board. Before you put the board in place, make sure you mark where the studs are. After the board is hung, you will need to tape the seams with drywall tape. Then, use drywall mud to cover all of the screw holes and tape.

The final step is to texture and paint the wall. You will, of course, want to match the existing texture on the wall. The difficulty of this job wholly depends on what type of texture you have. Spray-on texture is easy to match, but hand-troweled texture requires a little more craft.

3 Common Sources Of Hidden Water Damage In Older Ranch Homes

    October 5, 2015Uncategorized
The 1960s and 1970s saw a development boom in subdivisions featuring single-story ranch homes. If you own a mid-century ranch, you probably love the easy floor plan and big yard. You might not be as happy with what’s happening behind the drywall in the finished basement.

Aging copper pipes, poor drainage, and cracked foundations all can set the stage for a soggy basement disaster.  Here are some of the most common causes of water damage and their symptoms.

    Pinhole leaks

Copper pipes weren’t meant to last forever. If your home still has the original plumbing, pinhole leaks could be forming. Corrosion from a number of sources creates pits on the inside wall of the pipe. Eventually, the pit deepens until it becomes a hole. Undetected, pinhole leaks can grow until they cause serious problems.

In many cases, water from a pinhole leak will run along a wall joist or the outside of a pipe, making them difficult to locate and diagnose. Here are the major signs:

    Unusually high water bills

You may notice a moldy smell in a room that appears to be clean and dry, bulges or soft spots in drywall, and water stains or bubbles in paint and wallpaper. There could also be unusual insect activity where floors and walls meet.

A pinhole leak doesn’t necessarily mean the entire plumbing system is shot. In many cases, only the damaged pipe needs to be replaced.

    Poor drainage

When your house was first built, the land was graded to slope away from the foundation and let rainwater flow toward the storm drain. Erosion, over-enthusiastic gardening, and clogged gutters can create a shallow spot near the house that draws water down along the foundation and eventually into the basement.

The most common sign of water seepage from a soggy foundation is dampness in the floor and at the bottom of the walls near the edge of the basement. Musty smells and mold stains may also be present.

Poor drainage can often be fixed with simple changes to the gutters and the landscaping near the house.

    Foundation problems

As a home ages, the soil that keeps the foundation stable may settle or shift due to drainage problems or even a prolonged drought. This puts stress on the walls, sometimes even cracking the concrete. Leaks from this source will be more apparent after a heavy rain, as moisture seeps down into the earth.

Moisture from a foundation crack can appear at any level in a finished basement. You may notice a bad smell from soggy insulation or water marks that disappear several days after a rainstorm.

While foundation damage may be serious, cracks can often be repaired if caught soon enough.

    Cleaning Up Water Damage Safely

    October 30, 2014Uncategorized
Water can cause a catastrophic amount of damage. It can ruin walls, floors, furniture, electronics, and many other things in a home. Water damage can also start to affect the electrical wiring in your home. This can be very dangerous as it can cause electrocution or even fires if it is not taken care of correctly.

Another hazard caused by water damage could be caused by falling debris. If the top floor in the home floods, it could get into the ceiling of the floor below. This can start to cause the ceiling to collapse and fall down onto your head.

In order to make sure that your water damage restoration and cleanup efforts are safe, there are a few different precautions that you need to take.

    Water Damage Cleanup Precautions

    1.  Turn Off Power. A live electrical wire that is wet and shorting out can be very hazardous. It could cause a fire that would damage the home even further or could cause electrocution and injure or kill someone. A falling appliance, such as a toaster falling into the water or an extension cord that is plugged in, can also be dangerous if the power is not turned off. To turn off the power to the home, you can do one of 2 things:

Turn the power off at the power box located on the outside of your home. By flipping the lever to the off position, you can ensure that all the power to the entire home is off. This can be done to ensure that no electricity is going to be able to enter the home and cause more damage. Turning the power off is a good idea until you can assess the extent of the damage.
Turn the power off at the electrical panel. By flipping the breakers to the specific parts of the home where the damage occurred, you can prevent dangerous accidents from occurring. This method will also let you continue to have power to other parts of the home that need it.
    2.  Awareness. It is extremely important to be aware of your surroundings. Look up and see if there is loose debris that could be a falling hazard. It would be a good idea to wear a hard hat and other protective gear while cleaning up these water damaged areas. This will prevent any falling debris from injuring you, especially during water damage restoration.

By taking the necessary steps to protect yourself, you can safely clean up the water damaged areas without sustaining any injuries or causing even more damage to the home.

4 Types of Flood Damage & What to Do About Them

    September 24, 2014Uncategorized
Not all flood damage results in homes being completely submerged or swept away. A flood can destroy you home in various other ways as well, of which you might not have thought about. Here are four possible threats to your home that might want to deal with beforehand to reduce the amount of flood cleanup and restoration remodeling you may face.

    1. Damage from Fuel Tanks and Lines

Those heavy fuel tanks sitting outside your house may go flying in a flood. Even if they don’t ram into your home and rupture, disconnected fuel lines can spread dangerous fuel into or around the property. Anchor all fuel tanks securely, and consider removing them entirely or shutting off all fuel lines if a flood is on the way.

    2. Sewer Line Leakage

Every home that makes of a city’s commercial sewer system has sewer lines running directly to and from it. When a major flood hits, it can cause sewage to back up through the drain pipe and into your home. This problem is not only disgusting, but it also promotes disease and can cause extensive damage to your home’s interiors.

One smart solution to this problem lies in the installation of a backflow valve that can control the passage of sewage along the drain pipe. A conversation with your plumber today about this type of modification could save you additional flood restoration headaches later on.

    3. Electrical Fires

A flood can leave you with a deadly present in the form of electrical system damage. This not only poses an electrocution hazard, but it can also lead to a house fire that burns whatever remains of your property to the ground. If your home is flooding or has been flooded:

Deactivate the breakers from the breaker box, if you can get to it safely.
Avoid touching any cables on the floor, even innocent-looking TV cables—they may contain a dangerous charge.
Make sure you home is completely dry before you turn the power back on.
Make an electrical inspection part of your flood restoration and flood cleanup checklist.
    4. Mold Infiltration

Mold loves standing water. This repulsive substance feeds on water and other organic materials (such as your home’s wooden beams). Mold produces spores that enter the air and cause all kinds of health problems, from allergic reactions to deadly lung diseases. Mold infiltration commonly follows flooding, rendering even mostly-intact homes unlivable without the aid of professional flood damage restoration services.

The best thing you can do to reduce this threat is to invest in some sort of waterproof membrane to protect your exterior walls and prevent water from seeping in through breaches. You can cover this membrane with a layer of brick, increasing your home overall water resistance while beautifying it at the same time. This of it as a form of preemptive restoration modeling!

With the right combination of smart advance planning and careful post-flood restoration, you can help you beloved home weather the storm.

At watching the true thought that you placed in gentle navigation I saw the strife and yet felt the pause to "what is life on a plain of reality to naturally see with an abstract verb". These are the nouns of our hour in a world that denies that we live in angular shores with sand, waves, ocean, beach and more. I did share your beautiful describe on my google+ yesterday as my brother visited and an incredible friend of his pulled your video stream up for us to watch together. My brother and I recently lost our mother and our family denied us any information and her going had consequences of great weight upon our life, yesterday was not only the first time I had seen hem since January 11th of this year rather the first time I had seen him in over six or seven years due to these same circumstances keeping us apart. Our family have kept my brother and I apart for the specific reason to keep us from being able to partner and gain some healing strength to then be afforded some at least small amount of time with our mother. As I was diagnosed a genius at the age of four and when my mother took me back to the same Shrink back in 2008 to see how the genius advanced and as she was greatly pleased with the subject of speak to me looking at it as being labeled for life, I am now a savant too. So there you have it and this is an honest fragment of conversation to say that discernment is how my mother broke the news to me and before her eyes she grew to understand that what she loved loved her more and just never spoke of the views.

Living History: A Guide to London’s Ten Oldest Buildings

As historical a city as London is, there are plenty of buildings and structures that date back centuries, if not thousands of years. While London had long been spotted with settlements, the first organized building came with the Romans after their invasion in 43 AD. The coming of the Christians in the Middle Ages led to the construction of several churches that see many worshippers each Sunday. Even more buildings that still exist today followed the Norman invasion in 1066 AD. So what are the ten oldest buildings and structures in the city?

    Thames Timbers – Approximately 5,000 – 4,000 BC

Possibly the oldest structure in London, archaeologists conducting a survey of the Thames in 2010 discovered six timber piles on the shore of the river under the shadow of MI6’s Vauxhall building. The structure dates back to the Mesolithic Period, at a time when the Thames was thinner and deeper than it is at present, a fact confirmed by the finding of stone tools nearby as well as Neolithic pottery. It’s unknown exactly what the purpose of the pillars was, whether it was a structure used like Stonehenge or something entirely different.

Temple of Mithras – 2nd/3rd Century AD

One of the oldest surviving Roman structures, it was constructed as a mithraeum, or a small temple for the worshippers of Mithras, the Persian god of light adopted by some Romans. It was discovered after World War II during the rebuilding caused by the London Blitz. Evidence suggested it was converted from Mithras to Bacchus worship around the 4th Century. After its discovery, it was relocated to Temple Court, Queen Victoria Street, for the construction of Bucklersbury House. Bloomberg intends to move the temple to its original site near the covered-over River Walbrook, with a plan to complete the project next year.

London Wall – 2nd/3rd Century AD

The first defensive wall constructed by the Romans around their settlement of Londinium, it essentially forms the original borders of the City of London. It is believed to have bene constructed anywhere from 190 to 225 AD, mostly to protect the settlement from invasion by the Picts, who had previously overrun Hadrian’s Wall in the 180s. It was in use as a defensive measure for 1,000 years after it was constructed and it helped to protect the rest of London from the Great Fire in 1666. Today, parts of it remain scattered around the border of the City of London and can be seen at the Museum of London, the Barbican Estate, and Tower Hill.

St. Pancras Parish Church – 314/6th Century AD

Separate from St. Panrcas New Church, the parish church (also known as St. Pancras Old Church) is believed to be one of the oldest places of worship in England. Evidence of the church’s construction is minimal, but it is believed to have been constructed as early as 314 AD. It was simply known as St. Pancras Church until the new church was constructed in 1819. Following the English Reformation, it was one of the only churches in London that permitted the burial of Catholics. The church was derelict by the mid-19th Century, but increases in population led to its restoration.

    St. Bride’s Church – 6th Century AD

    St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street
Perhaps the second oldest church in London, it was supposedly constructed during the 6th Century and is dedicated to the Irish Saint Bride, also known as St. Bridget. The church may have been constructed under orders of Bridget herself or by Irish monks proselytizing in her name. The Medieval crypt also has Roman pavement that dates its foundations back even further than the original church’s construction. The present church is actually much newer, as the original was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The current building was constructed after the fire by Christopher Wren and its spire served as the inspiration for the modern tiered wedding cake.

All Hallows by the Tower – 675 AD

Named, in part, for its close proximity to the Tower of London, the church actually pre-dates the Tower by four-hundred years. It was established by the Saxons of Barking Abbey and for years was named “All Hallowed Barking”. As with St. Bride’s, it was constructed on the site of a formerly Roman building, and as such, some of the building’s foundation can be seen in the crypt. Following the Tower’s construction, the church was renamed and its closeness brought royal connections, with Edward VII using it as a royal chantry and Tower execution victims being sent there for temporary burial. It was damaged several times, first in the 17th Century when gunpowder stored in the churchyard exploded and during World War II when German bombs gutted its inside. The church has a fascinating history and is connected to a couple prominent Americans, including William Penn (who was baptised there) and John Quincy Adams (whose marriage took place there).

London Stone – 9th Century AD (possibly earlier)

An irregular-shaped block of limestone currently housed behind metal bars at 111 Cannon Street, the London Stone has been used since the 9th Century as a place to strike deals and swear oaths, though the structure that it was once supposedly part of is said to be even older. A ceremonial structure, the stone was used as a place for the swearing in for the Lord Mayor of London. There is much speculation about its origin, from being an altar stone brought by mythical London founder Brutus to being part of the foundation of the Roman governor’s palace.

    Pyx Chapel – 1066 AD

Whether known as Pyx Chapel or Pyx Chamber, this part of Westminster Abbey located between Chapter House and the Great Cloister was built the same year that William the Conqueror was crowned William I. The “pyx” was a vessel used to house the consecrated Host for the Eucharist (or Holy Communion). A pyx was also a chest that housed coins used to test the quality of newly-minted currency. The “Trial of the Pyx” was the ceremony used to test that quality, though the test was typically performed in the Palace of Westminster than in the Abbey. The Pyx Chamber thus became a treasury for both the Abbey as well as the crown. While many of the fixtures were removed after the English Reformation, the excellent Medieval tiles and stone altar remain.

White Tower (Tower of London) – 1078 AD

Coming shortly after William the Conqueror came to London, he built the Tower of London as much for administrative control as to display his power over the citizens of London. The White Tower was the first part of the Tower of London to be built, begun in 1066 and finished in 1078. The White Tower saw many different uses over its history, being a royal residence, defensive fortification, records storage, and even a prison. Today, it is the central part of the Tower of London tour and contains the collection of the Royal Armouries and exhibits on the royal line.

Westminster Hall (Palace of Westminster) – 1097 AD

The oldest building of the Parliamentary Estate, Westminster Hall was erected in 1097 and was, at the time, the largest hall in Europe. It was constructed by William’s son, King William II, who, like his father, wanted a building that would impress his power upon his subjects. As with the White Tower, it had several function over the centuries, including being the royal court, a court of law, a meeting place, and a place for dignitaries to lie in state before their funerals. It is sometimes still used for joint meetings of the House of Lords and the House of Commons and, in rare circumstances, a place for foreign leaders to address the two houses.

    Sinus rhythm

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schematic representation of normal sinus rhythm showing standard waves, segments, and intervals
sinus rhythm is any cardiac rhythm where depolarisation of the cardiac muscle begins at the sinus node.[1] It is characterised by the presence of correctly oriented P waves on the electrocardiogram (ECG). Sinus rhythm is necessary, but not sufficient, for normal electrical activity within the heart.
The term normal sinus rhythm (NSR) is sometimes used to denote a specific type of sinus rhythm where all other measurements on the ECG also fall within designated normal limits, giving rise to the characteristic appearance of the ECG when the electrical conduction system of the heart is functioning normally.[2] However, other sinus rhythms can be entirely normal in particular patient groups and clinical contexts, so the term is sometimes considered a misnomer and its use is sometimes discouraged.[3]

Example of a sinus rhythm with bifascicular block.
Other types of sinus rhythm include sinus tachycardiasinus bradycardia and sinus arrhythmia. Sinus rhythm may be present together with other cardiac arrhythmias on the same ECG.

ECG characteristics of normal sinus rhythm[edit]

By convention, the term "normal sinus rhythm" is taken to imply that not only are the P waves (reflecting activity of the sinus node itself) normal in morphology, but that all other ECG measurements are also normal. Criteria therefore include:[2][4]
    1. Normal heart rate (classically 60 to 100 beats per minute for an adult).
    2. Regular rhythm, with less than 0.16 second variation in the shortest and longest durations between successive P waves.
    3. The sinus node should pace the heart – therefore, P waves must be round, all the same shape, and present before every QRS complex in a ratio of 1:1.
    4. Normal P wave axis (0 to +75 degrees)
    5. Normal PR interval, QRS complex and QT interval.
    6. QRS complex positive in leads I, II, aVF and V3-V6, and negative in lead aVR.
